Tembo Nickel Corporation (“Tembo”) is an operating company formed pursuant to a Framework Agreement between Kabanga Nickel Limited and the Government of Tanzania.

Under the Agreement, Tembo (owned 84% by Kabanga Nickel Limited and 16% by the Government of Tanzania) was established to mine, process and refine Class 1 nickel with cobalt and copper co-products.

“Tembo” is the Swahili word for elephant and represents strength, community and longevity.

This company creates shared value between the people of Tanzania and Lifezone Metals, and empowers Tanzania to become a leading international supplier of battery metals.

Our partner and investor, BHP – one of the world’s largest mining companies – has endorsed our approach.

To date, it has invested a total of $100 million, which includes $10 million into our hydromet technology and $90 million into the Kabanga Nickel project which will advance Feasibility Studies in the near-term.

Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC)

Since 2012, we have worked in close collaboration with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) of South Africa who officially partnered with Lifezone in 2016.

The IDC have a direct investment into the hydromet facilities at Sedibelo Resource’s Pilanesburg Platinum Mines, currently under construction.
